Last of the ‘Grands Projets’

Commissioned by President Mitterand as his last ‘grand projet’, this national monument dating from the 1937 Paris Exhibition was to be refurbished to house the Centre National des Arts de l’Image, to include the Cinemathèque Française, Centre National de Photograhie, Bibliothèque de l’Image and FEMIS fim school. The project was won through a national competition and was progressed up to tender for phase 1 involving internal demolitions, structural alterations and primary services. It has since become a major centre in Paris for temporary exhibitions, designed by architects Lacaton Vassal.

1992 - 1993, with Franck Hammoutène, for the Ministry of Culture and diverse institutional end users.

My role was project architect during (the equivalent of) RIBA stages 1 to 3.
