Glazed vitrine, with sliding glass door

A New National Museum of Music

Housing the French national collection of musical instruments, the project was an interior fit-out of part of the Cité de la Musique building designed by Christian de Portzamparc. The concept was for a series of light-touch installations where the instruments would be suspended in space. Meticulously detailed cabinetry, woodwork and optical fibre lighting allow the musical instruments to appear to float in front of minimally detailed vitrines. Large glazed screens were predrilled with holes that could be used for discreet bespoke supports for the individual instruments.

1992 - 1994, with Franck Hammoutène Architecte for the Ministry of Culture and Cité de la Musique.

My role was project architect for exhibition design of the vitrines during (the equivalent of) Stage 2 to 4.
