Phoenix SEN School, Bow

Façade detail

A New Presence on Bow Road

This special educational needs (SEN) school occupies a Grade II listed building on a secluded site in Tredegar Conservation Area. A new striking new sixth form building includes a secure school entrance on Bow Road, while existing accommodation was improved for security, layout and accessibility. The glazed façade to the new building has a variable ceramic frit that allows the maximum amount of daylight into the deep plan classrooms while controlling views out for vulnerable pupils. We worked closely with the head teacher and other school staff to provide a secure and inspiring learning environment where the children could learn vocational skills to help them lead more independent lives.

2010 - 2014, with Patel Taylor for London Borough of Tower Hamlets.

My role was team leader from Stage 1 to completion of a design-and-build PFI contract with Bouygues UK.
